For surface modification, water repellent products are of major importance because of the required longer storability and less maintenance of materials and coatings which are exposed to weathering. Silicone resins, silicone elastomers and sol-gel components containing amines are water repellent additives which particularly stand out for their self-crosslinking and film-forming properties. Aqueous emulsions are ideally suited, whether as water repellents for high-solid systems, formulations with a high fastness to driving rain or for impregnating porous surfaces.<
